Although positioned more as a family hiking resort, Champagny is nevertheless an ideal destination for trail running enthusiasts. This is evidenced by its trail running event dating back to the 1980s, which was then called the « Course alpine du Grand Bec ».
There are many reasons why it is a great place for trail running. First of all, there are routes of various lengths and elevation.
You can train for the vertical km by climbing from Champagny to the Mont de la Guerre (+1000m D+) or to the Pointe de la Vélière (+1200m D+); or to the Plan des Gouilles and above (>900m D+) from the Bois; or finally to the Glacier de Bellecôte via Plaisance from the Laisonnay (>+1200m D+) Note also that it is possible to go down by gondola free of charge, ideal for those who want to focus on the ascent in preparation for a high altitude event.
Those who like short runs will find fairly rolling and wooded terrain on the slopes of Les Combes and around the Pointe de Meribel.
Those wishing to run on flat or hilly terrain will appreciate the UNESCO-protected valley of Champagny-le-Haut and its well-maintained paths.
Finally, lovers of longer outings will find the Vanoise Park the ideal playground, where the only limit is your imagination! You will find rolling, technical and challenging trails with regular water points to optimise your outings, whether they are 20km or 80km.
Champagny also has a number of shops where you can complete your equipment or rent a mountain bike or ATV according to your wishes.
